Facebook Will Soon Be Changing It’s Name

November 1, 2021

Facebook is planning to rebrand itself under the new name  'Meta' according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

At the company's Connect event, Zuckerberg announced that the social media platform will change It's name to Meta in the near future. He said:

"We are a company that builds technology to connect."

"Together, we can finally put people at the center of our technology. And together, we can <tipso unlock>unlock<tipso unlock> a massively bigger creator <tipso economy>economy<tipso economy>."

He added: "To <tipso reflect>reflect<tipso reflect> who we are and what we hope to build."

Zuckerberg stressed that the current name 'Facebook' no longer represents what the company does and hopes to achieve. He wants the company to be a 'metaverse'

"Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product," he said.

"But over time, I hope we are seen as a metaverse company."

It was recently discovered that Zuckerberg also owns the domain meta.com and twitter handle @meta. A sure sign that Facebook may soon be a thing of the past.

Looking at the website, it appears the new platform will be focusing on connecting people through virtual reality by using tech such as VR headsets and smart glasses.

However, some people have criticised the idea, saying they are hesitant to purchase expensive technology just to connect with their friends and loved ones.

"The metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. Our company's vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future." - Zuckerberg
